Intel to sell Rs 5000 pc

Intel's Atom has set off explosion all around the globe and the latest one was heard yesterday in New Delhi when Intel announced the launch of an industry-wide movement called the 'Connected Indians' where government, industry associations and private enterprise came together for the common cause of connecting a billion Indians. The movement is intended to mobilise people, resources and infrastructure to connect citizens to information, ideas, people, capital and services leading to overall development and future success.

During the event, A Raja, minister of communications and IT, announced the launch of computing devices starting at an affordable price of Rs 5,000. The devices are based on Intel’s revolutionary Atom processor; these low-cost devices will be available in the Indian market very soon. The minister said that this could provide the ‘unconnected’ citizens with a truly affordable, simple and easy-to-use access to the Internet. He hoped that the price range will appeal very strongly to the broad citizen base. Raja called upon the industry to continuously innovate to create cost-effective Internet access usage models.

Intel also showcased some of the netbooks, manufactured by the partners, during the event. Some of the netbooks are as small as your VHS video cassette! These netbooks are going to be the hottest happening things for all those who stay on move like journalists, writers, businessmen and students. Of course, you never know who else is eying it!
